Sherri Ruggieri, Esq., known formally as Sherri Orenberg-Ruggieri, has spent more than 25 years practicing law in New Jersey. Her work spans environmental prosecution, land use and redevelopment, public-board representation, foreclosure matters, and advocacy for families and individuals with disabilities. She earned her undergraduate degree in English and Government from Franklin & Marshall College and her M.A. in English from Drew University. At Seton Hall University School of Law (“Seton Hall Law”), Sherri served on the Legislative Law Journal and as the Special Assignments Editor for Res Ipsa Loquitur (the law school newspaper). She worked in Seton Hall Law’s Family Law Clinic and its Career Placement Office, where she coached evening students and alumni on résumés, cover letters, and interviewing.
Early in her legal career, Sherri worked for the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office in the Megan’s Law Unit. Later, as the Special Environmental Prosecutor for Mandelbaum Salsburg, she litigated Hazmat billback cases and enforced the Solid Waste Management Fees Program with the Middlesex County Health Department, County Improvement Authority, and County Utilities Authority. She has extensive experience representing public boards and has appeared before municipal and county boards, commissions, administrative agencies, and courts.
Sherri also brings over two decades of public service to her legal practice. She served as Edison Township’s Library Board President, Planning Board Chairperson, Master Plan Subcommittee member, Technical Review Committee appointee, and Environmental Commission participant. As a Senior Staff Attorney for the Community Health Law Project (CHLP), she tried cases in Monmouth and Ocean County Landlord-Tenant and Special Civil Part courts, handled foreclosure cases, and argued Social Security appeals before administrative law judges.
In June 2026, Sherri presented on School Discipline at the New Jersey State Bar Foundation (NJSBF) Law & Disability Conference. Last year, she taught “Clarity of Purpose,” a New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE) course on informal and formal legal writing. A frequent lecturer, she has also collaborated with the Affordable Housing Alliance and the Freehold Tenants’ Association on Landlord-Tenant eviction law.
Sherri wrote updates for the NJSBF’s Disability Law Primer in the areas of Estate Planning, Workers’ Compensation, and Secondary Education. Her articles on legal writing, planning board jurisdiction, redevelopment, municipal law, Megan’s Law, and voting rights have appeared in legal publications. Her poetry also won the NJSBF’s Merit Award last year, and her watercolors have been exhibited at the NJSBF’s Art Exhibits and the New Jersey Law Journal‘s Celebration of Lawyers in the Arts. In 2024, she was appointed to the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Committee for Caregivers of Family Members with Special Needs, where she draws on her 30 years of experience as the mother of a daughter on the autism spectrum.
